“Glorious Gardens” – The 2025 Garden Walk
June 21 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Spring Lake, MI
“Glorious Gardens” – The Tri-Cities Garden Club is hosting its 30th annual Garden Walk on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will have 7 gardens for you to walk through and enjoy. All the gardens are in the Spring Lake area. This event will take place rain or shine. Refreshments, crafts, plein air artists, music, and a plant sale will be featured at some of the locations. Tickets are $15 per adult (children 12 and under are free) and will be available beginning June 9th at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum in Grand Haven, or they may be purchased at any of the locations on the day of the walk. We will post the garden addresses mid-May.
1 Tom Livergood and Debbie Bawden – 16144 Coventry Ln.
This is our third summer in our newly-built home, which gave us a blank garden area to design. We wanted as much natural area as possible and limited yard work, thus the use of beach grass in many areas.
In the front we have mostly perennials with a few annuals. The perennials were chosen to attract butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. The backyard and west side of the house has extensive ground cover, such as Mayapples. The backyard is a work in progress. There is a stone path to a vegetable garden with many hardwood tress like beechnut, cherry, red maple, and walnut, along with several conifers. Our yard has become a relaxing, peaceful place to enjoy.
2 Christine Haakenson – 16106 Coventry Lane
Come explore my garden and discover what grows here. I moved into my home this winter so it is all new to me too. It has a beautiful yard from what I saw last fall so I now have the adventure of continuing to tend and expand the variety of plants. I grew up in West Michigan and am familiar with some of the traditional plants but I have several that are new to me. My goal for this first year is to keep everything alive and to educate myself how to tend to all the plants.
3 Joe and Jean Wisinski – 16774 Bridle Path
Our backyard shade garden showcases a landscape with a variety of plants, flowers, and a lovingly maintained lawn. The garden bed is covered with dark mulch, contrasting with the ground cover and vibrant green Japanese grass. Different species of plants are arranged in a natural-looking pattern, including small shrubs and flowering plants like blue and pink hydrangeas. A curved section of the garden features a decorative pathway made of blue shale surrounded by bright green Hostas, leading to a three little bears statue. We aimed to provide a peaceful and well-loved garden atmosphere, blending structured landscaping with the natural environment.
4 Edward and Liz Porter – 16050 Harbor Point
Welcome to our garden where the focus is on veggies, fruits and blooms. We took inspiration from Liz growing up on a farm and Liz’s mother’s English background.
The distinct areas are plotted and planned based on space, sun and function. Herbs and companion plantings are utilized as an organic means to repel garden pests and enhance growth and flavor.
Blooms are enjoyed in the garden as well as gathered for posy and nosegay bouquets. All the veggies and fruits are enjoyed year round, picked at peak, enjoyed, dried, canned or frozen for winter. We hope you enjoy meandering through our garden oasis.
5 The Boeve Residence – 16069 Lake Point Drive
The gardens at our home feature terraced boulder landscaping accented by cascading phlox and sedum, with ornamental grasses, shrubs, and moss rose softening the hardscape. A dedicated dahlia garden and numerous deck planters provide vibrant seasonal color. A highlight of the upper and lower pool decks are the large Bloom Master® hanging baskets, showcasing striking Apricot Illumination Begonias. Vertical gardening methods—including raised beds and GreenStalk® garden towers—maximize productivity in limited space, yielding an impressive variety of produce. The landscape offers visual interest throughout, with a diverse plant palette ranging from Aspen trees to succulents, and artichokes to elephant ears.
6 Shelley and Noel Hansen – 16518 Wickshire Street
Our garden is a work-in-progress which began in August of 2024. Our goal was to create an environment that not only provided beautiful flowers and trees but also created a friendly place for wildlife creatures. The various plants were carefully picked to provide homes for birds, bees, butterflies and other critters. Native flowers and trees were favored and chosen whenever possible. Planting began in August and continued through the fall. In early spring of 2025, we continued to add plants, and our goal is to continually add to and refine our plantings. Expansion of native plants into the wooded area is also part of our never-ending project. We have already qualified as a wildlife habitat by providing housing for birds and bees, even bats. Please come back in two years to see the changes!
7 Lynn Smith – 15160 Kelly Street
My gardens are a little unconventional and eclectic. The front yard features many shrubs, trees, perennials and spring bulbs rather than a lawn, and changes as the seasons progress. Other garden areas contain sun and shade perennials, including a variety of hostas, pollinator plants, annual pots/plants, specimen trees and a variety of garden art. The gardens have been recognized as a “Certified Wildlife Habitat” by the National Wildlife Federation and as a “Pollinator Garden.”
The 2024 Garden Walk will be June 22 2024 in Grand Haven
“Gardens Made Easy” the 2024 Garden Walk will be June 22 from 10-4. This year’s tour will feature 7 gardens in Grand Haven and Robinson Townships. Refreshments, a craft and plants to purchase will be available. Artists will be featured in some of the gardens. Tickets will be $12 and available for purchase on the day at all of the gardens. Tickets will also be available before the day of the walk at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum.
